Fortinet Expands Unified SASE to Simplify Microbranch Security
FortiLink SASE Service brings cloud-delivered security and centralised management to wired and wireless devices.
Fortinet (NASDAQ: FTNT) has announced the FortiLink SASE Service, designed to secure small branch offices, remote facilities and distributed locations without requiring dedicated on-site firewalls. The service connects local networks to FortiSASE through supported Fortinet Wi-Fi access points and Ethernet switches, providing cloud-delivered security for wired and wireless devices.
Organisations can manage networking equipment and security policies through a single console. Fortinet says the approach reduces deployment and management complexity while extending security controls to devices that cannot run traditional endpoint security agents.
Anthony James, EVP of Marketing, Fortinet, said, “Organisations need flexibility in how they secure distributed locations, particularly where dedicated security infrastructure or agents may not be practical. By extending FortiSASE to local networks, we’re giving organisations a simpler way to protect users and devices while maintaining consistent security and centralised control.”
FortiLink SASE Service Simplifies Distributed Security
Small branch offices, remote facilities and temporary sites often operate with limited on-site IT resources. These locations must secure employee devices, printers, cameras and Internet of Things (IoT) equipment. However, many connected devices cannot run endpoint security agents, while deploying dedicated firewalls at every location adds cost and complexity.
The FortiLink SASE Service addresses these challenges by connecting entire local area networks (LANs) to FortiSASE. According to Fortinet, the service provides three main capabilities:
- Protect more devices: Apply cloud-delivered security to wired and wireless devices, including equipment that cannot run FortiClient.
- Simplify deployment: Connect LAN environments to FortiSASE without installing endpoint agents on every device or dedicated security appliances at each location.
- Centralise management: Manage supported networking devices and security policies through a single console, including traffic inspection and policy enforcement.
Built on Fortinet’s unified networking and security architecture, the service extends protection beyond individual endpoints to entire microbranch environments. Fortinet says this provides organisations with a more consistent approach to securing distributed locations without requiring an on-site FortiGate firewall.
